Description
Furquin Eye Gel is an antibiotic ocular medication used to treat bacterial infections in the eye.
Ingredients
- Active Ingredient: Moxifloxacin (0.5% w/v)
- Drug Class: Fluoroquinolone antibiotic
Primary Uses
- Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Treats “pink eye” and superficial bacterial infections of the eye.
- Corneal Ulcers: Used to manage bacterial infections on the cornea.
- Discharge & Tearing: Relieves frequent eye discharge, redness, and irritation.
- Post-Operative Care: Helps prevent or manage bacterial complications after eye surgeries.
- Veterinary Use: Commonly prescribed for dogs and cats suffering from ocular infections.
How It Works
Moxifloxacin acts as a bactericidal agent. It stops bacteria from dividing and multiplying by inhibiting essential bacterial enzymes called DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, ultimately destroying the infection-causing microorganisms. The gel formulation is specifically designed to stay in the eye longer, allowing for deeper penetration and sustained therapeutic action.
How to Use & Precautions
- Application: Wash your hands thoroughly, gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a pocket, and squeeze the gel inside without letting the tip touch your eye.
- Contact Lenses: Do not wear contact lenses while dealing with a bacterial eye infection.
- Side Effects: May cause a temporary burning sensation, dry eyes, mild irritation, or short-term blurred vision right after application.
Dosage:- Always consult your veterinarian before giving your pet any medications, supplements, or new foods.
